IEBC has invited Mike Sonko to submit his papers for clearance to vie for Mombasa governor.In a letter, Mombasa Returning Officer Swalha Ibrahim said the IEBC would abide by the decision of the court directing it to accept his nomination.“The venue will be the IEBC Mombasa County offices and you are expected to submit your papers on July 14, 2022 between 2pm and 4pm,” Ms Ibrahim said.
A High Court in Mombasa on Wednesday ordered the electoral commission to accept the nomination of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was also directed to gazette Sonko, who is eying the Mombasa governor seat.
The court ruled that IEBC acted unreasonably to disqualify Sonko from the race.
