NAIROBI, July 22, 2025 – In a landmark development for Kenyan journalism, Ridah Kering Chebet, senior anchor and station manager at Maisha TV, has been officially selected as Kenya’s sole delegate to attend RT Academy 2025, an international journalism training program hosted in Moscow by the global broadcaster RT.

The academy opened on Monday, July 21, drawing elite journalists and media professionals from across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Chebet’s selection not only makes her the first-ever Kenyan journalist in the program’s history, but also marks a major milestone for Maisha TV — the only Kenyan media house actively involved in RT’s global training and content exchange initiative.

Chebet departed JKIA (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) over the weekend, transiting through Dubai before arriving in Moscow, where the academy is based.

Ridah Kering Chebet: A Trailblazer in Kenyan Media

Chebet holds a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Mombasa Technical University and brings nearly a decade of experience in news anchoring, editorial leadership, and media strategy. As a prominent face of Maisha TV, she has become widely respected for her sharp political interviews, commanding presence, and commitment to quality journalism.

About RT Academy

RT Academy, founded by Russia’s global broadcaster RT (Russia Today), is an intensive, hands-on training program offering coursework in *live journalism, investigative reporting, digital production, post-production editing, social media strategy, and broadcast presentation.

Led by top RT producers, correspondents, and editors, the academy is known for pushing journalistic standards and equipping media professionals with global perspectives. Outstanding trainees are eligible for internships at RT’s worldwide bureaus.

Maisha TV: Kenya’s Rising Broadcast Powerhouse

Founded in the early 2020s, Maisha TV Kenya has rapidly become one of the country’s most influential regional broadcasters. According to the 2024–2025 Media Council of Kenya report, the station was ranked the *5th most consumed TV channel nationally, solidifying its status as a growing force in Kenya’s media landscape.

Broadcasting across Kenya and beyond via StarTimes Channel 108, GOtv 808, and Free-To-Air (FTA) decoders, Maisha TV serves over 8 million viewers with a compelling mix of journalism, current affairs, entertainment, and educational programming.

Its flagship shows include:

  • PLG (Politics, Leadership & Governance) – Thursdays at 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM
  • Special Report News – in-depth investigative documentaries
  • Newsroom Bulletin – breaking news and weekday bulletins
  • The Drift – a dynamic current affairs review show
  • Women Talk – conversations on gender, empowerment, and policy
  • Maisha Kids – educational programming for children
  • Maisha Sunday – weekend lifestyle and community programming
  • Soap Operas and African Movies – fan-favorite storytelling
  • Music Shows – East African hits and culture
  • The Lumumba Show – hosted by Prof. PLO Lumumba
  • RT News – Live from Moscow – international news from RT International

The inclusion of RT News – Live from Moscow into the DAILY programming schedule has made Maisha TV the only Kenyan broadcaster airing live RT news content, offering its audiences a fresh international perspective on geopolitics and global affairs.

A Strategic Cross-Border Collaboration

In 2024, Maisha TV initiated a groundbreaking partnership with RT International, broadcasting a one-hour RT-produced segment every Day — airing Monday to Friday at 2:00 PM, with a rebroadcast at 8:00 AM. This content includes RT’s international coverage, geopolitical features, and global current affairs, delivering broader context to Kenyan viewers.

This partnership laid the foundation for Chebet’s involvement in RT Academy 2025, highlighting the deepening collaboration between Maisha TV and one of the world’s most watched global broadcasters.

Why This Matters

Ridah Chebet’s participation reflects:

  • Kenya’s rising influence in global journalism spaces
  • Recognition of Maisha TV as a station of international calibre
  • A vital skills transfer opportunity to raise newsroom standards
  • An opportunity to strengthen Kenya–Russia media diplomacy

Her training will empower Maisha TV Kenya’s newsroom with advanced editorial strategies and raise the bar for live reporting, investigative storytelling, and content innovation.

A Message to the Nation

Before departing, Chebet remarked:

“To represent Kenya and Maisha TV on a global media stage is an honor — but more than that, it’s a responsibility. I am here to learn, grow, and return better equipped to transform how we tell our stories.”

Looking Ahead

Ridah Kering Chebet’s selection to RT Academy 2025 signals more than personal achievement — it represents a bold shift in Kenya’s media evolution. It is a clear message that Kenyan broadcasters can compete globally, and that Maisha TV is leading the charge.
