Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has rubbished reports of downgrading of Deputy President William Samoei Ruto ‘s security personnel.
He said that Securing H.E the Deputy President is structured in a 3 layered order
Matiang’i said Dp is the most protected deputy president since independence.
Matiangi on Wednesday told Parliament’s Committee on Administration and National Security that Ruto has a sum of 257 police officers offering 24 hours security throughout.
The Interior CS explained the DP’s security is multi-layered with the inner layer having 121 officers from the elite Presidential Escort team which has remained intact.
“The second layer of DP security was rearranged and there was no removal. It is a mandate of the IG to do the rearrangements. Consultations were done before the move was taken. It was legal, strategic, and openly done,” Matiang’i said.
The Interiors CS said Layer two protects the physical building housing the DP and offices including where he has interests has 121 officers.
The CS said the DP luxuriously enjoys the services of a further 51 officers who are in charge of a number of Ruto’s private properties including Weston Hotel.
“Cumulatively, the strength of personnel allocated to the DP is 257 officers. The number could even be more,” Matiangi said.
The CS added that Ruto is also the country’s DP having the highest level of trained and qualified officers managing his security.
“We have provided sufficient security to the holder of the office of the Deputy President of Kenya,” he added.
The CS’s statements have revealed details of massive property allegedly owned by the DP and receives state protection from multi-agency security units.
Matiang’i said 51 officers are attached to Ruto’s 10 other properties. Kitengela Gas has six officers, Weston Hotel has four officers while Murumbi Farm has six officers.
