Motorists and boda boda riders took to the streets in various parts of the country including of Migori Town, and Nairobi on Thursday, September 16, to protest the recent rise of fuel prices in the country.
Our correspondents in the areas told MAISHA TV that activities in the towns were paralysed as the protestors blocked the road with stones and burnt tyres.
On Tuesday, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced that petrol prices had increased by Ksh7.58 per liter to retail at Ksh134.72 in Nairobi while diesel increased by Ksh7.94 to retail at Ksh115.
On the other hand, kerosene spiked by Ksh12.97 to retail at Ksh110.2.
Parliament has summoned Energy Cabinet Secretary, Charles Keter, and his Petroleum counterpart, John Munyes after the uproar.
The duo is expected to explain why the fuel prices experienced such a sharp spike.
They will appear before the Senate in the week beginning Monday, September 20.
