Nairobi, Kenya – June 10, 2025, 03:03 PM EDT
President William Samoei Ruto has officially appointed new commissioners to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) through a Kenya Gazette notice published today. The appointments, detailed in Gazette Notice Nos. 7724 and 7725, were enacted under Article 250 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act, signaling a key step in revitalizing the electoral body.
Key Appointments:
All commissioners have been appointed for six-year terms, effective from June 10, 2025. The process was executed under the authority of Article 250 (2), read with section 5 (2) of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act and Paragraph 4 of the First Schedule to the Act, with President Ruto, as Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, overseeing the appointments.
Published in a special issue of The Kenya Gazette (Vol. CXXVII—No. 122), priced at Sh. 60 and registered by the Government Printer (GPO), the notice formalizes the reconstitution of the IEBC. The new commissioners are set to assume their duties immediately, focusing on voter registration, electoral reforms, and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
This move aims to ensure a fully operational IEBC, capable of addressing past challenges and upholding democratic processes in Kenya.
