Murathe wants Raila to legalize Bhang when he ascends to power

Wajackoya’s idea of Marijuana might soon be part of Raila’s agenda if Jubilee Vice-chairman David Murathe’s proposal is adopted by Azimio La Umoja Coalition.

Murathe now wants Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga to consider Roots Party George Wajackoyah’s manifesto especially his ideas on growing medicinal marijuana.

Speaking Wednesday morning, on NTV, Murathe stated that growing marijuana for medicinal purposes is something that Raila should take into account.

He noted that a number of countries in Africa have turned to bhang for export and it is an idea that many Kenyans and especially the youth have particularly taken a keen interest in.

On Monday, The anti-drug abuse agency Nacada and security agencies cautioned politicians against campaigning on the platform of legalising the growing and consumption of marijuana.

Officials warned that usage of the drug had increased since campaigns popularising it started.

Nacada CEO Victor Okioma said the narcotic drug was responsible for runaway cases of mental ailments and that legalising it would harm Kenyans.

A section of church leaders from various parts of the country also rallied Kenyans to reject Roots Party’s presidential candidate George Wajackoyah over the aspirant’s obsession with bhang conversation.

Wajackoyah’s promise to legalise bhang

The presidential candidate has promised to legalize the plant if elected in the forthcoming August general election.

Under the umbrella of the Federation of Evangelical and Indigenous Christian Churches of Kenya (FEICCK), the clerics upheld that Wajackoyah’s campaign promises are not only contrary to Christian values and ethics but also disregard the rules of a civilized society.

Led by FEICCK secretary-general bishop David Thagana, the priests maintained that Kenya cannot be ruled by individuals on a mission to erode the moral values of the society.

Turning Kenya into a ‘smoking nation’, they said, will double the deprivation and misery of Kenyans as uptake of the currently outlawed substance will result in depression among youths, more crime and deaths.

“Reject the principles of Wajackoyah categorically and anyone else against the principles of peace, ethics and morality. You cannot grow Kenya by radicalizing the citizenry into smoking. What he cannot do to his children then should not be done to Kenyans,” Thagana said.
