Daring broad daylight Robbery that shocked the nation

Armed robbers execute a daring robbery in broad daylight stealing two cash boxes at Prime Bank Mombasa Road branch on January 18, 2020.

The armed robbers raided Prime Bank Mombasa Road on Monday afternoon, shot one security personnel and carried two cash boxes containing unknown amount of cash.

The six robbers quickly disarmed two officers attached to the Administration Police’s Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) Langata who were manning the bank.

Embakasi Sub-County police boss said the robbers’ entourage was through Hypermat and Ramtons premises near City Cabanas/Kyangombe exchange at around 2.45pm.

They then attacked and subdued Corporal Mohammed Hassan and Corporal Eunice Syengo before forcefully disarming them of the Scorpion weapon with a total of 30 rounds of ammunition.

The Prime Bank Chief Security officer, Ephantus Mwaniki, confirmed to the press that a bank’s lorry registration number KCR 219J Isuzu NKR was driven to the premises and parked at the vicinity of the property adjacent to the bank inside the compound.

The six robbers, all armed with loaded pistols, then pointed the guns at the officers, confronting them and after disarming them they ordered one of the bank tellers, Peter Kimanthi to submit an unknown amount of money.

“The robbers then entered the mobile Prime Bank banking truck registration number KCR 219J and took away two cash cassettes (boxes) containing unknown amount of money,” Embakasi police boss.

Two of them then escaped in a motorcycle whose registration number was not captured. Police said the other four flawlessly escaped on foot to unknown destination.

During the incident, one of the security guards identified as Geoffrey Kipleting was shot and injured.
