Police have arrested a student from Kamama Boys High School in Embu County in connection with a fire incident at Mugumo Girls High School in Kirinyaga.

Gichugu Sub-county police commander Anthony Mbogo said the Form 3 student was arrested at Kimunye village.

“His parent told us Kamama Boys in Embu was closed last week after student destroyed school properties,” Mbogo said.

Investigations established that the suspect sneaked into Mugumo Girls Secondary School and gave his girlfriend a cigarette lighter to torch a dormitory that had a capacity of 220 students.

The police boss said nine students from Mugumo Girls High School were arrested on Friday in connection with an arson attack in which a dormitory was razed.

“Some students who are being held here at Kianyaga Police Station mentioned the suspect and they have agreed to be State witnesses,’ Mbogo added.
