Is DP Kindiki at war with Gachagua’s Shadow-PLG

Current deputy president Professor Kithure Kindiki would have a hard time shading off his predecessor’s shadow according to Bushebi Junior.

During the state of the nation discussion on Politics, Leadership and governance program on Maisha TV hosted by Ridah Kering Chebet, Mr. Bushebi Junior said Kindiki’s 50 days in office as Deputy President is shadowed by Rigathi Gachagua.

” Professor assumed office not through an electoral process, but rather a nominative process, where the President appointed him, having decided to collaborate with him after working with another individual for two years. Nevertheless, there has been a concerted effort to revitalize the Deputy President’s office in a manner that many interpret as a blend of sycophancy and technocracy.”

According to the the communication expert and political analyst, Kindiki’s office now essentially signifies an office whose allegiance is primarily to the President himself, yet simultaneously one where there is a decisive initiative to discuss, formulate, and communicate government policies, rather than to engage solely in politics.

“I believe that this is a significant aspect I have been observing while closely monitoring Deputy President Kindiki. I have noted a few key points: Firstly, it is an office where he has endeavored to demonstrate loyalty to His Excellency Dr. William Ruto. Secondly, it serves as a platform for discussing, creating, and formulating policies, and the entirety of the interview revolves around communicating those policies and outlining the government’s trajectory.” he said

” I think Kindiki aims to establish himself as a figure distinct from Rigathi Gachagua. Essentially, the ongoing struggle appears to be a confrontation against the legacy of Rigathi Gachagua. If you examine Rigathi Gachagua, he is considerably more political than Kindiki, who leans more towards technocracy. Kindiki embodies an approach akin to Mudavadi, involving individuals in office who deliberate on issues, seek to formulate policies, communicate effectively, and implement those policies, in contrast to Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who embodies a more political activist stance. This distinction is what Kiki aims to clarify.”

Since Deputy President Kiki assumed office, numerous questions have arisen, particularly concerning the swift nature of the former Deputy President’s removal and how it was managed.

Many Kenyans perceive him not as their Deputy President but rather as the Deputy President of President William Ruto. Do you think he can overcome this perception and emerge as the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, despite the legal reality that he holds this title?

Bushebi jr says, it all depends on how Kindiki assumed office.

“we must bear in mind what I initially remarked upon regarding the nature of Kiki’s ascent to this office. He was not elected by the citizenry; he was nominated by William Ruto. The individual who was elected as Deputy President is Rigathi Gachagua. This perception creates what I term the ‘shadow of Rigathi Gachagua,’ which Kiki has been striving to dispel. This struggle is evident in his efforts to counter almost every move made by the former Deputy President.

“For instance, following Gachagua held media interview, just five days later, Kindiki provided an alternative perspective in another interview. This methodology is aimed at shedding the stigma associated with Ragu’s tenure in the Deputy Presidency.” bushebi jr

Mr. Bushebi says he remains uncertain about Kindiki’s ability to navigate this political landscape.

” It is crucial to recognize that political success is fundamentally rooted in perception. Throughout his political pursuit, Kindiki strikes me as a version of a technocrat; he appears to be methodical and reserved. In stark contrast, President William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua embody the essence of politicians. They articulate sentiments that resonate with the public and pursue ambitions vigorously, often with little regard for the truth behind their assertions. Individuals like Kindiki, who possess a more subdued and reserved demeanor, may struggle within such a volatile political context.” he said

The political arena often propagates an environment where typical political figures manipulate perceptions to project themselves as principled leaders, even when their claims may stray from the truth. This can frequently lead to scenarios where political actors are propelled by others; of Which, Mr Bushebi says the professor was lifted into his Deputy Presidency by William Ruto’s political maneuvering and Without significant support from such established political figures, it is doubtful he can alter perceptions linked to his predecessor, Rigathi.

Recently, the Deputy President, Professor Kiki, has been observed actively monitoring the progress of government projects, informing the public about government initiatives. He recently stated that by January 2025, Kenyans would occupy government-constructed affordable housing, claiming that over 50,000 citizens have enrolled in the housing initiative.

Some might view this as a departure from the previous dynamic, where both President William Ruto and former Deputy President Gago were absorbed in political discourse. Now, Kiki represents a fresh approach, focusing on the initiatives being undertaken.

On this, Mr. Bushebi opines that just like his previous commentary regarding the government’s need for effective communication, it’s a great move.

“I commend Deputy President Kiki for this focus, as it aligns precisely with what the public requires. The government should not be apprehensive about criticism or public reactions; rather, it should embrace constructive discourse. When outlining government policies and articulating project details, an openness to feedback should be welcomed rather than feared.” he said

” I have consistently been a proponent of the government conveying appropriate messages to the citizens of Kenya while disregarding numerous distractions and political maneuvers associated with policy formulation and service delivery. I have repeatedly asserted that the government ought to communicate effectively. At one point, I even questioned the role of the communications team led by keen intellects who joined President William Ruto’s administration. I found myself perplexed by their actions. Thus, when a person of the Deputy President’s caliber steps forward to explain government initiatives and articulate, it significantly benefits Kenyans. This enables them to scrutinize, interpret, and arrive at informed decisions based on such communication, which is vital for democracy and the citizenry in Kenya. It allows individuals to discern whether the government is functioning effectively.” He stated

Mr. Bushebi said, a good example is During the last State of the Nation address the President delivered during the joint parliamentary session, the populace had the opportunity to analyze the remarks and identify inaccuracies or affirmations in the President’s statements.

” That exemplifies precisely what the government should be undertaking: executing actions and then communicating about them. It is essential to engage in dialogue with Kenyans; it is a conversation. In our information-driven world, there is a pressing need for transparency. Kenyans require awareness about housing issues and healthcare matters. While citizens are vocal, the government’s response has been lacking. Instead of providing clarity, the government has resorted to nonsensical rhetoricutterances devoid of substance capable of fostering understanding and respect.” He said

” However, when I witness a technocrat, such as the Deputy President, effectively addressing pertinent issues, that is indeed commendable. I can assert that my previous encouragement for improved communication may have resonated. On a previous occasion, I urged the President to candidly tackle the topic concerning Bill Gates and the vaccination of cattle as speculation was mounting among the public. Fortunately, the following day, the President took the initiative to address the matter.

Mr. Bushebi claims though the president expressed considerable displeasure in the cow vaccination critics he ought to have been proactive rather than reactive.

“His comments were so harsh that I would hesitate to repeat them. The reason the President’s response seemed reactive, rather than proactive, stems from inadequate communication. Had they articulated earlier that our meat is being compromised during exports due to specific international standardssuch as the requirement for animal vaccinationsthey would have alleviated many misunderstandings.” he stated
