Maisha TV has won the Kenya’s best upcoming TV station award at the KUZA Awards for the year 2022.
The entry award of Maisha TV (Maisha Television Kenya) has solidified the Station in the country as the fastest growing and trusted TV for news after emerging with the win in the broadcast category.
The prestigious awards ceremony was held at the Safari park hotel on 31st may 2022.
The commendation of the Clearsol Africa owned Tv station was awarded based on audience measurement data and compliance returns, Inspection reports, Compliance with programming code, and License requirement.
Speaking after the announcement, the Opertaions Manager at Maisha TV, Kering Chebet Ridah lauded Maisha TV Viewers for confirming to the whole country that Maisha TV is the newly growing popular and most watched station in Kenya. She was accompanied by Advertising and continuity head Nerima Wekesa
Nerima has termed the win as the most satisfying news of the year so far and which is a reward to the many hours that every Maisha TV staff has put into growing Maisha TV and endearing it to the public.
Maisha News Editorial team was equally upbeat for managing to beat Maisha TV’s perennial rivals to the top spot as the a growing, Trusted, and persistent TV for news, Entertainment and education.
The KUZA awards attracted a total of 3, 195, 344 votes through the sms code 15601
The aim of the awards is to recognize broadcasters who stand in line with the Regulatory Requirement Board of Kenya. The annual event seeks to recognize and reward excellence in the broadcasting industry
Citizen TV was named the most favorite free-to-air TV station in the country during the annual KUZA awards held on Tuesday, May 31.
In the awards organized by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), K24 TV owned by Mediamax Limited also made a surprise appearance in the list as it emerged as a runner-up in the favourite TV category.
Additionally, Citizen TV’s sister station, Inooro TV emerged as the second runner-up.
In the radio category, Radio Maisha owned by the Standard Group LTD emerged as the favourite station among Kenyans and was followed by Ramogi FM owned by Royal Media Services LTD and Milele FM of Mediamax.
Radio stations that won regional awards include: Sidai FM (Rift Region), Sayare Radio (North Rift Region), County FM (Eastern Region), Tuliza FM (Central Region) Radio Pacho (Nyanza Lake Region), Nyota FM (Western Region), and Kaya FM (Coast region).
Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) on the other hand received the Ubora Award for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of the stations’ role in shaping Kenya’s media industry.
“The Ubora Award category also includes the Lifetime Achievement Award which celebrates entities or individuals who have demonstrated excellent service, made a positive impact, and significant contributions to the broadcasting industry in Kenya.
“This award will recognize broadcasters and individuals within the industry who uphold standards of good taste and decency with regard to copyright obligations,” CA Director General, Ezra Chiloba stated.
Newly appointed Kenyans Ambassador to Belgium, Prof Bitange Ndemo, was also recognised for his role in the ICT industry following his role as Permanent Secretary from 2003 to 2013.
Ndemo received the individual award under the Ubora award alongside Esther Kamweru.
Chiloba stated the awards were in recognition of the efforts of the media houses in maintaining regulations put in place by the government.
“This year we have three major award categories. The first is the Regulatory Awards Category based on the monitoring of broadcasters’ compliance with selected requirements during the Financial Year 2021/22,” he stated.
