Polycarp Igathe, Project or Leader

Jubilee Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate Polycarp Igathe could be a an under siege following his various remarks on a number of pertinent issues facing Nairobi and.

When the former Nairobi deputy governor resigned from the position  in 2018, Mr Igathe claimed that he has failed to earn the trust of Governor Mike Sonko to enable him work at the county.

“Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm on 31st Jan 2018.

“I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county. Without fear, favour or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians and my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far,” he said in a post on his Twitter account.

During the Nairobi Gubernatorial debate on July Monday 11th, Igathe claimed that In six months (as a governor before being reminded he was DG), he claimed he had already done alot of work as a deputy governor to Mike Mbuvi Sonko, including setting up structures for service delivery.

“This contradiction will cost Mr. Igathe votes, at first, you say you had not been assigned any work, but later claim to have worked ” A netizen questioned.

However, He said during his short tenure as Deputy Governor, he was not assigned any duties to serve Nairobians.

“I did not know my roles as Deputy Governor. Cabinet then was led without my knowledge. I couldn’t receive a salary without working for Kenyans,” Igathe said.

He is on record saying that he failed to earn Trust of his former boss.

“I failed to earn the trust of those in the County to get my job done. That’s the reason I resigned as Deputy Gov in 2017. I respect the people of Nairobi & their vote so my conscience would not let me sit in an office, earn a salary & do nothing for the people.” Igathe

In a series of tweets on his twitter account, Polycarp Igathe has continued to defend his political views and history in a bid to woo Nairobi voters to vote him in, on August 9.

When questioned why he now wanted to be Nairobi Governor after quitting the DG seat in 2018, Igathe, claimed that he wanted to serve the people.

“I did not quit on the citizens of Nairobi. I fell on my sword and failed to earn the trust of those I was with. But I have come back to run the race and win so that I can serve the people and build a better City.”

PROJECT

He has also been accused of being “a project” of Cartels of business people and “Deep state. “

In an interview with a local media, Igathe said that he was approached by people, especially from the business community to go for the seat.

“Most business people have told me about the following; taxation, licensing, services and harassment. Many have urged me to run the County how a referee officiates a match,” he said.
