South Africa secured their fourth Rugby World Cup title in a thrilling final against New Zealand.
Despite being reduced to 14 men early on, the Springboks maintained their lead with accurate goalkicking from Handre Pollard. New Zealand fought back, narrowing the gap to just one point, but were unable to find the decisive score.
Captain Siya Kolisi celebrated the historic victory, as South Africa became the first team to win the tournament back-to-back away from home.
The Springboks’ triumph solidifies their status as the dominant force in World Cup history, having won half of the tournaments they have participated in. New Zealand’s head coach, Ian Foster, narrowly missed out on the ultimate prize after facing scrutiny in the lead-up to the final.
