Report by Ridah Chebet
The year 2020 was the year full of opportunities just like 2021 despite being a tough year for many people. In fact, “Tough year” is an understatement. The previous twelve months coupled with the Coronavirus pandemic, was a mind boggling exigent year especially for entrepreneurs but not when you are Bushebi Jr. The Upheaval will continue as geopolitical doors offer gold mines in Kenya.
These are the observations of Bushebi Junior, the CEO of Clearsol Africa and founder of Maisha Television.
I took time to have a chat with the man who has for a long time believed in Hard work, resilience and building people. His mother company Clearsol Africa was founded in 2016 to create solutions to problems facing societies through media.
Currently, the company provides services to over 8 Million people in Western Kenya, owns Maisha Television, Maisha Media Academy, Depression KE, HESHIMA AWARDS, with 15 employees on board and on a scale up.
RIDAH CHEBET: What does 2021 mean to you?
BUSHEBI: Ridah, we must contend with social and economic collateral opportunities these 12 months present. There is also the flip side to this coin, idle minds become devil’s workshops. We must continue to work hard as Kenyans embracing the year with a lot of optimism. I started this journey demonstrating that uncommon opportunities can arise from turmoil faced in our country. It takes a brilliant CEO or an entrepreneur to seize the opportunities with speed and urgency. We have seen that in Kenya and the world at large. We are grateful to God that we are still scaling up. None of our businesses is closed or closing. It’s unfortunate that many businesses closed, people lost jobs but it taught me that normal can turn new anytime.
RIDAH: What was your biggest Challenge in 2020
BUSHEBI: The road was tough but profitable, absolutely CEO’s lifestyle. You see, building a profitable company is not a walk in the park but fun. The beginning of 2020, we flung into expansion and we ain’t stopping especially for the TV station, Maisha Media academy, and DepressionKE.
We live in rapidly changing times, especially for us. Consider that, in a single generation, we are happy that our company has had to adapt to entirely new marketing channels, decide how to invest in and utilize sleeker dynamic and complicated technologies, and compete with other businesses in the industry. These were initially unimaginable to our parents’ and grandparents’ generations. One side effect of this dynamism and growth is that no single CEO — or any employee, for that matter — can be an expert in everything. This means that we are on the right track with our able team at MAISHA TELEVISION and other subsidiaries.
RIDAH: Are you the man to watch in 2021
BUSHEBI: Hahaha, I guess, people watch my programmes on TV daily, however, as a company, we intend to do great this year. Everything we do now trickles down to a sense of purpose. Nowadays people long for inspiration, connection, a sense of purpose not just bombarding our people with products and services.
They want to know that they are being heard in all dimensions of their lives by your business. It is up to us to make sure those needs are met in the workplace. To accomplish this, we are going to greatest lengths to emphasize the very important “our role in the society”
We also know that speed is essential, and action is paramount: The pace of the world – already breakneck – has accelerated even more. For example, Digitalization efforts that were originally expected to take five years happened in just five months of 2020. That rings a bell! We must be efficient, cost-effective, and solution based. I now believe more than ever that, yes we can!
RIDAH: let me throw a funny blogger’s rumor ….
