One gigantic impediment we confront in trying to break out of the rat race are people. People who are going nowhere constantly want you to go with them.
Some things that they do and say regarding your dreams could be Jonah’s craziness.
In my early years of entrepreneurship, One of my close friends suddenly accused me of dreaming beyond dreams. As long as we were all poor, and unsuccessful, it was ok. As long as we were in the rat race circle not investing, a world of accumulating useless expenses together, life looked “normal.”
For some time, it appeared normal for the reason that we all looked the same. But, deep inside me I also knew that the most abnormal thing is forming funeral songs for the death of precious investment goals in the name of trying to fit in to my environment or people.
It doesn’t matter who you are. You cannot be like everyone. You are different. Your purpose is unique! Never fit in when you were meant to stand out! Not to freak out!
People can mean well. They can be like Peter the disciple of Jesus who feared for him. He once stood in front of Jesus and told him, “You will not die! Let’s just keep hanging around. We like you. You are the master, we are your disciples”
Peter was so wide of the mark! Jesus had come to die! He was meant for the cross! However, it was deathfor three days only. He would not sit on the kingship throne unless He paid the price of death for three days and resurrect.
The baby Lamb of God born in a manger had to suffer for a while then sit on the throne as the Lion of Judah forever! From a lamb to a lion, nothing would stop Him. Not Peter his friend!
Not even death. He was unstoppable!
We must be prepared to live a few years of our lives like others won’t so we can spend the rest of our lives like others can’t.
Dreaming big doesn’t come short of dismal waters. I experienced them in, from and through people. Some close relationships became extremely toxic.
Other businesses I had started with close people perished right on my face. I lost a lot of money. I watched helplessly as almost everything I had worked for vanished right in front of my eyes. I thought a lot.
There are times that my career, and other avenues in my life were an unpleasant taste in my mouth. I faced the harsh reality of life. However, at that point, I made up my mind long time ago that I MUST remain unstoppable.
I have done hundreds of speaking engagements and interacted with many people. I realized I had not been alone.
The list is out, many people stopped pursuing their goals. Some reduced their goals to mere peanuts because of fear of failure, scorn or laughter. The big “loser’s” question that drives them is. “What will people say if I fail?”
To be successful, what people say about you should be none of your business. What they do is none of your business. Mind your business!
From the day you change your mind to be free, you threaten your former slave master. You begin to challenge the status quo.
This is a transaction that will break you or make you. What will you do when you are eschewed for pursuing your dreams? Will you stop?
Your slave master, whoever or whatever it is having enjoyed the trappings of power to control you will not merely let you go. Your poor belief system will fight back. Your oppressors will try to fight back. Your environment will attempt to hold you back. Your past may scream and people may draw their swords against you. Don’t worry, first they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win!
People who stop pursuing their goals because of people they interact with or the environment they live in cannot be successful in life. Perhaps you fear breaking out of the circle. You still want to fit in with your retrograde friends or relatives. It may have been your teacher who told you that you are the most stupid student. Perhaps it’s your parent, spouse, in laws, friends, background, or people you trusted your life with.
Many times, at first, there appears no physical or mental ray of light of hope to make it through. Fear customarily assaults like a roaring lion. You suddenly sense the “end of the world.”
Before I knew what I write, what people said or did almost devastated my life. I learnt the hard way to understand that what I say and do is more important. I am the one who will live with the consequences of my actions. Am the king of my goals!
I do not remember all details on how I instinctively tap into the emotional reasons for moving on.
There is a somehow an unexplained covert law governing psychology of wealth and choices. As I choose to “strategically focus on what I want through God’s word and work,” things start to change. Sometimes so fast.
To survive the storms of life and thrive in tough moments, I make every effort to remain committed in setting goals appropriately and intelligently. I hate procrastinating. Procrastination produces anxiety that unobtrusively transforms to fear. Fear transmutes to terror that makes you a wide-ranging fool. You abruptly start running away from an invisible enemy. You begin acting weird.
I learnt to make decisions promptly. It makes me come to terms with conditions and be sober. It taught me to be unpretentious in good times and fearless in tough moments.
My businesses, profession, marriage, and leadership are streamlined through this principle. I get good results in my life. They come in form of material or non-material opportunities.
Challenges may look unmanageable and ostensibly hopeless at times. That’s the recipe for a great shining and future hopefulness.
When everything goes wrong, and they usually do, prepare to ask a thousand unreciprocated questions. You might be tempted to panic, hide, have restless nights, and try to vanish in thin air as in a movie. That’s ordinary and spot-on. You cannot evade temptations. You may slightly succumb to them. Fear lingers but refute it. Fight! Give no throne. Cast it out. It’s the sacrifice, dedication and the discipline for rare people.
It is at this point that I came to understand the role of love in life too. If you don’t love what you do, chances are high you can become so unsuccessful and unhappy. What you love to do MUST be in line with your goals and purpose. Your relationship with your goals, people, and God based on love is important. True love in relational matters is an antidote to fear.
