Deputy President William Ruto is never short of showing that he is a man of the people. The second in command while on a political tour in Migori County bought an umbrella at Ksh 20,000. Ruto at the same time gave out another Ksh 20,000 to a middle-aged man at the same location.
While addressing the roadside crowd from the top of his vehicle, Ruto spotted a woman carrying an umbrella, and asked if she could pass it to him.
The woman identified as Mackline Otieno industriously handed over the umbrella to Ruto who in return gave her Ksh 20,000 for the umbrella.
In yet another, occasion, a middle-aged man walking in crutches asked to be allowed to chat with the DP, and luckily his wish was granted talk to the second in command.
Upon reaching his vehicle, the unidentified man was given Ksh20, 000 after a brief conversation.
Ruto was on a political tour in Migori County on Saturday, September 25, where he was flanked by area governor Okoth Obado.
In his address to Migori residents, Ruto claimed President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga have teamed up to frustrate his presidential bid, saying that his only hope was now lying with the ordinary Kenyans.
Ruto also donated Ksh 2 million to boda boda Saccos and small-scale traders in Awendo, Migori County.
The DP also pledged to allocate Ksh120m next year to support small scale traders across the nation.
Ruto also castigated the government for failing to secure the economic welfare of Kenyans.
“It is the role of the government to come up with policies that will ensure the youth are employed, or they can run a business of their own. Those who do not have a business or are unemployed are in this state because the government has failed,” Ruto said.
Ruto was accompanied to Awendo by Migori Governor Okoth Obado, MPs Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Mathias Robi (Kuria West), Johana Ngeno (Emurua Dikirr), Marwa Kitayama (Kuria East), among others.
