Cry as Bungoma student who scored A in 2021 KCSE fails to join university over lack of school fees

When alberto machube Got An A Plain of 81 points in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in 2021 at Kabianga high school And Successfully Called To maseno University , he was optimistic that he would pursue his dream.

He had defied all odds of life due to the fact that he was being raised by his grand mother. Thanks to Bungoma Scholarship program then that enabled him to undertake his High school education after getting 417 marks in KCPE.

And now, battered and broken but still hopeful, his fate now hangs in a balance as the hurdle of school fees denies him another chance to join Maseno University.
He was supposed to join Maseno University to on September 6 2022 but about 3 months down the line, he is still at home.

on Friday when Maisha TV visited him at his Matulo home in Webuye West constituency in Bungoma County where they live in an impoverished state, the bright boy pleaded for assistance as he held his calling letter to the university.

He is expected to pay Ksh.47,840 for his first year but up to now, her Grand mother getrude Nelima has only managed to only to hope for help.

Alberto said it has always been his dream to become pursue higher education ever since he was young but due to lack of school fees, it is becoming a challenge for him.

“I have always dreamt of becoming a medic since I was young so that I can be able to treat the sick, “he said.

A similar thing happened to him after he was done with his KCPE and he almost missed joining form one after clearing his class 8 where he scored 417 out of 500 marks.
He was called to join kabianga Boys High school in Kabianga in Kericho but because of financial constraints, he did not.

By God’s grace, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati through Wangamati Scholarship program came to his aid. Impressed by his good performance, The county Government fully paid for his High School education at Kabianga Boys High school.

His Grand mother, Getrude nelima, told us how she has struggled with him.She says life has not been easy for her as she is both his mother and father and Grand mother.

With tears at the corner of her eyes, she hopes that Alberto being her Grand child will one day lift the family up.

She says Alberto is a very polite boy, humble, full of respect and very intelligent. Being her beloved Grandson, she says she had banked all her hopes in him but due to lack of school fees, his dream of becoming a doctor might die.

She appealed for well-wishers to assist her with whatever they can offer so that Alberto can join fellow learners in university.

“I am appealing for people to come to our aid.Am very old and about to die, I have tried all means possible but it has reached a point that I cannot manage.“she said.

She added that her grandson is worried that he cannot continue with his education after working tirelessly in school.
